Residential Garage Doors

completed home garage doors
The majority of garage doors are your classic overhead garage doors. For such a large installation, not a lot of attention gets paid in this valuable area of your curb appeal. The fact is that the garage door is probably the first area that your guests will see when they pull up to your house. When it is time to choose a new garage door, it is important to keep in mind that aesthetics do count! There are several different kinds of garage doors out there and we can help you decide what the best choice will be for your lifestyle and the look of your home.

Sectional
Sectional garage doors are the most popular type of garage door for residents in the US. When the door opens and closes, wheels that lie at the edges of the panels roll within a track at the sides of the opening of the garage door. The horizontal hinges are able to move and bend over a curved portion of the vertical track. This means that the garage door can rest overhead when it is completely open. Springs are used above the opening and are attached to cables that hold the door open or slowly release it to close.

Roll Up
Roll up doors are commonly found in commercial applications, but they can be very beneficial in a residential setting. These doors are similar to sectional doors in that they have horizontal sections that slowly roll up and down to open and close. The sections however are much thinner and are typically steel. These doors are made to withstand lots of use and can be customized to prevent damage from rust, corrosion and freezing. Because it is a heavy-duty model, it can be more expensive than your typical sectional design.

Side to Side
This garage door is much like a sectional garage door only it opens horizontally instead of vertically. This a great choice for garages that do not have very much head room to store the garage door. The run along tracks at the bottom that are flexible enough to adapt to slight sloping of the ground below. They can be automated as well, with a retractable motor that is built in.

Side Hinged
Side hinged garage doors are the classic, old fashioned style of garage doors. The doors swing open and closed with the use of hinges that are on the sides of the garage door opening. They can sort of resemble barn doors and are usually made out of wood, but steel doors are also available in this style. These doors can also be automated with conversion arms that help to open and close the doors.
